Stafford and Defense Help Raiders Get Win Over Tacoma.

Pierce Raider Soccer was able to get a big West Region league win today vs. 8th ranked Tacoma Titans at Game Farm Park.Pierce was able to get a 2-0 win to gain second place from Tacoma.
The Raiders are now 4-2-2 in league, 6-7-2 overall. The Raiders would like to keep the position so they possibly hold a home playoff game next month. With the loss, Tacoma fell to
3-4-1 in league, 7-6-1 overall. The Raiders felt good about the win, especially after using pink jerseys to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness.
Freshman Austin Stafford had both goals for the Raiders. After the goals Stafford became the Raiders top scorer for the season with five. Stafford had worked much of the game down the left side of the field trying to beat the last defender, but he was able to score the final goal late in the second half by finally zooming past the Titan defender. The first goal was at the 20th minute with an assistfrom Freshman Josh Jarbah. The final goal helped seal the deal at the 73 minute for the Raiders. Stafford's goal had an assist from sophomore Christian Guzman. Coach Luke Helling-Christy said, "both of the goals today show a high work rate approach. Josh and Austin do have a great work ethic. They punch in every day with their hard helmet and lunch box with them."
Freshman AlekGreenleafwas incredible today in the Raider goal. Helling-Christywas proud of Alek'sjob in the goal, saying, "He has grown all season. The last time we played Tacoma the final was 0-0. Coach Zilly has worked with him each day and he has a great approach. He's tall and that allows him to have the upper part of the goal." Today hekept all five of the Titans shots out of the goal. The defense helped the Raiders stay close with the Titans. Coach Helling-Christythough went on to say, "we have added a new system at practice. There is more stability in the middle of the field and it has given us a more organized approach that has helped us get the ball down the field."
Helling-Christywas happy about this late season win, "this puts us in the driver seat for the opportunity to have a possible home playoff game if we keep winning."
