Women's Basketball Heads to NWAC Playoffs

The Pierce Raiders beat the Highline Thunderbirds on Saturday afternoon to earn a spot at the 2023 NWAC playoffs. Pierce defeated Highline with a score of 53-32, entering the tournament with an overall record of 9-19 and 5-7 in the West Region. This will be the first NWAC post season appearance that Pierce has had since the 2011-2012 season, where the team finished 3rd in the West, but did not place at the tournament after going 0-2. Head coach, Marquessa Gilson, assistant coaches, Russell Gilson and Kellis Dack, and team Manager, Darryl Dawston are all in their first year of coaching at Pierce.

Against Highline, Leslie Luna led the Raiders in points with 12, and added two rebounds and two steals.

Kiki Brooks added eight points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks in the game.

Keshara Romain scored eight points for the Raiders and grabbed 10 rebounds. Romain also had one steal and one block.

Tyra Brown also scored eight points and secured 10 rebounds, as well as one assist, two steals, and one block.

Jordan Carter added seven points for Pierce. Carter also had eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

The Raiders will travel to Pasco, WA on Wednesday, March 8th to take on the #1 seed from the East, Columbia Basin. Game time is scheduled for 6:00pm.
