Men's Soccer tops Walla Walla! Advance to NWAC Final Four

The Men's Soccer team went on the road on Saturday for the second leg of the Northwest Athletic Conference's regional playoffs, and pulled off yet another 'upset' of a higher seed team. The Raiders faced Walla Walla Community College in the NWAC quarterfinals, on the Warriors home field, and defeated the East Region champs, 3-0.

The Raiders struck first when freshman midfielder Tate Hamlettscored in the 28th minute. The Raiders took their slim 1-0 lead to halftime, knowing the Warriors offense would regroup for the final 45 minutes. However, the Raiders defense held strong for the full 90 minutes, allowing just 5 shots on goal - all saved by goalkeeper Alek Greenleaf. Pierce increased their lead in the second half with goals by Carlos Rodriguez in the 75th minute, and sealed the deal with the team's third goal of the game by Marcos Santos on a penalty kick in the 89th minute.

The game was a rematch of an early preseason game in which the Raiders also came out on top, 2-1. The Warriors defense was one of the stingiest in the conference this season, giving up only 12 goals in 17 games.

The Raiders advance to the semi-finals of the NWACChampionships, on Friday at the StarfireSports Complex, in Tukwila. Pierce will face fellow West Region foe Tacoma Community College, starting at 5:30 p.m. The winner of the semi-final match will advance to the championship game on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. If you can't make it to the game, you can watch the action on the NWAClivestream at,http://www.nwacsports.org/soccer/championship.php
