Pierce Defeats Thunderbirds in West Region Opener

The Women’s Basketball team opened the West Region conference with a win against the Highline Thunderbirds on Wednesday night. The Raiders defeated the Thunderbirds with a score of 55-37 and advanced their West Region record to 1-0 and 4-12 overall.

Keshara Romain had another stellar performance for the Raiders, marking her ninth double-double this season with a team leading 20 points and 18 rebounds. Romain also added two steals, one assist, and two blocks.

Kiki Brooks delivered 13 points for the Raiders, while also contributing three rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and one block. Brooks led the Raiders in minutes played with a total of 37.

Leslie Luna added eight points for Pierce, as well as four steals, two assists, and four rebounds.

Tyra Brown secured eight rebounds for the Raiders. Brown scored 5 points and had one steal for Pierce.

Wednesday's night win marks the first conference win for Head Coach, Marquessa Gilson. Gilson took over the Women's Basketball program in May of 2022 in hope of turning around the Raider program, which had a previous overall record of 1-23 and 0-12 in the West Region for the 2021-2022 season. Gilson coaches alongside Assistant Coach Russell Gilson, Assistant Coach Kellis Dack, and Manager Darryl Dawston.

The Raiders will take on Tacoma CC at the Titan Gym in Tacoma, WA on Saturday, January 14th. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00pm.
