Tina Brooks named Head Coach for Pierce Volleyball

Lakewood, WA – Tina Brooks has been named the new Head Coach for the Raider Volleyball program.  Brooks brings a strong background of coaching at the local high school and club level, and expects to continue the legacy of competitive excellence the Raiders have established over the past 8 years.

“We are excited to have Tina take over the reins of the Raider Volleyball program,” said Pierce athletic director Duncan Stevenson.  “After 3 years as an assistant in the program, she will provide a seamless transition for the program, and continue building a culture that develops outstanding volleyball players and quality young women.  Tina’s ties to the network of top-tier high school and club players in the South Sound region, should prove extremely beneficial as she begins to shape the program with her vision and goals guiding the process.”

Prior to joining the Pierce staff in the Fall of 2021, Brooks served as a head coach for 16 years at the high schools in the greater Tacoma/Pierce County area, including; Stadium, Spanaway Lake, Foster, and Roosevelt.  In 2019, she led Stadium to a PCL league championship and was named PCL Coach of the Year.  Her 2018 and 2019 teams placed in the Top 16 at State.  She spent 8 years with the Puyallup Juniors Volleyball Club, and has been with the Dakine Volleyball Club since 2020, most recently coaching the 18 National team.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to showcase my experience and dedication to a program with so much success.”  Brooks said after learning of her selection.  “I know Raider volleyball will share in my passion and competitive nature to build on those winning traditions. There are many branches of gratitude that go out to all the family, friends, coaches, and athletes who mentored and advocated for me along the way to achieving this goal. I wouldn’t be the coach I am today without them!”

Brooks replaces Valerie Koch, who led the Raiders the past 2 seasons.  Koch stepped down following the recently completed season, having compiled a league record of 14-10 (24-34 overall), while leading the Raiders to two trips to the NWAC post season.

Brooks earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and her Master’s in Health and Fitness from Central Washington University.  She has been a teacher in the Bethel School District since 2011, and currently teaches science at Spanaway Middle School.

Pierce College has served as the host school for the NWAC Championship Tournament since 2014, and will host the conference’s Elite 8 finals November 22-24, 2024, at the Fort Steilacoom campus in Lakewood, WA.
