Raiders Season Ends at Super Regionals

The Pierce Raiders closed out their 2023 season on Saturday, May 20th in Pasco, WA after losing two games in a best-of-three series against Columbia Basin College. Before facing the CBC Hawks, the Raiders faced elimination on Friday, May 19th against Skagit Valley in a loser-out game. The Raiders defeated Skagit Valley in 11 innings with a score of 4-3, ending the season for the Cardinals. In the first game against Columbia Basin, Pierce lost by a score of 3-1, and fell to the Hawks in game two by a score of 5-4. Pierce ended their season with an overall record of 24-26 and 11-13 in the West Region Conference.

Game 1 vs Skagit Valley:

Sophomore infielder, Ryan Stansell, led the Raiders on offense with three hits in the game. Stansell also scored one run, walked once, and stole one base. Garrett Smith had two hits and a sac fly for the Raiders, as well as one RBI. Caden Stinson also had two hits, as well as two walks, one run, and two stolen bases. Ryan Gerlitz had one hit, as well as the go-ahead sac fly to centerfield that allowed Stansell to score from third base in the top of the 11th inning. Gerlitz also had one walk, and scored once. Ethan Salscheider earned the start for the Raiders, pitching a total of 8.2 innings before being relieved by Curran Jacobs in the ninth inning. Salscheider gave up seven hits, three runs (two earned), three walks, and struck out six. Cooper Weygandt took over for Jacobs and pitched a total of two innings for Pierce. Weygandt faced six batters and did not give up any hits, runs, or walks.

Game 2 vs Columbia Basin

The Hawks managed to keep the Raiders to only two hits in the game, with Kedren Kinzie and Michael Moore each collecting one. Kinzie drove in the lone run for the Raiders on a double in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring Moore who had doubled earlier in the inning. Drake Anderson started on the mound for the Raiders, pitching 6.2 innings. Anderson gave up seven hits, three runs, three walks, and struck out three. Evan Williamson relieved Anderson in the seventh inning, and managed to silence the Hawks for the remainder of the game. Williamson gave up one walk and struck out one, without giving up any hits or runs in his appearance.

Game 3 vs Columbia Basin

The Raiders bats came alive in their final game of the season, knocking around six hits in the game. Kaden Steen had one hit, a double, a walk, and scored one run in the game. Ryan Gerlitz also had one hit, one walk, one RBI, one stolen base, and scored twice for the Raiders. Additionally, Michael Moore, Garrett Smith, Kedren Kinzie, and Ryan Stansell each recorded one hit in the game. Cooper Weygandt returned to the mound for the second day in a row. Weygandt pitched a total of 4.2 innings before being relieved by Joby Johnson in the fifth inning. Weygandt gave up six hits, four runs, and five walks. Johnson appeared on the mound for 2.2 innings, giving up three hits, one run, two walks, and striking out two.
