Raiders Fall to Bulldogs in Conference Opener

The Pierce Raiders traveled north to Bellevue to take on the Bellevue Bulldogs in the North Region opener on Tuesday afternoon. The Raiders faced a tough Bellevue team which scored early and often in the game. In game one, the Raiders lost to the Bulldogs by a score 11-0. The Raiders lost by a score of 12-1 in the second game.

Despite some solid at-bats from the Raider lineup, Hollie Haataia was the only Raider to get a hit in the first game, breaking up the Bellevue no-hitter in the second inning by sending the ball up the middle for a stand-up double.

Cydney Jarvis was the starting pitcher for Pierce and was relieved by Makayla Stockman after 2.2 innings of work. Stockman worked the mound for 1.1 innings giving up one run while striking out one.

In game two, the Raiders had a bit more luck at the plates as they managed to knock around five hits off the Bulldogs pitching staff.

Kendall Lawson led the Raiders with two hits. The first one coming early in the top of the first inning as she placed the ball between the third baseman and a diving shortstop.

Hollie Haataia added a hit in the second inning, dropping a blooper into shallow left field.

In the top of the third inning Lawson delivered her second hit of the day, a single line drive between first and second base. In the bottom of the fifth inning the Raiders drove in their first run of the day when Grace Spencer hit a line drive up the middle to score Baylee Blau. Blau reached base earlier in the inning when a shot back to the pitcher led to a throwing error, allowing Blau to advance to second base.

Vivian Watts started on the mound for the Raiders, putting in three innings of work. Watts struck out 2 in the effort.

The Raiders head to Westminster, BC on Sunday to take on Douglas College. Game one is scheduled for 12:00pm, game two will follow at 2:00pm.
