Raiders Unable to Rally Past Royals

The Pierce Raiders softball team hosted Douglas College of Westminster, Canada on Saturday, April 22nd in their second meeting of the season. Douglas managed to walk away from both games with a sweep of the Raiders. The Raiders lost game one with a score of 8-0 and game two by a score of 10-2, making the Raiders overall record 4-15 and 2-8 in the North Region conference.

Cydney Jarvis opened up on the mound for the Raiders and managed to keep the tough Douglas team to only three runs by the fifth inning, but a sixth inning grand slam from the Royals ended the game early for the Raiders. Jarvis faced 31 batters in the game, giving up eleven hits and one walk, while striking out two.

Grace Spencer tallied one of two hits for the Raiders with a single in the bottom of the first inning. Elena Castanon tried to start a rally in the bottom of the fourth inning by hitting a double into right-center but the Raiders were unable to continue the rally.

In game two, Makayla Stockman started on the mound for the Raiders. Stockman faced 22 batters in her 3.1 innings, giving up 11 hits and striking out one. Makayla was relieved by Cydney Jarvis in the third inning, working a total of 1.2 innings for Pierce. Jarvis faced five batters in her effort, giving up one hit, and one run.

Elena Castanon led the Raiders in hits and RBIs with two apiece. Castanon drove in the first run of the day for the Raiders in the bottom of the first inning as she hit a solo homerun over the left field fence. Elena added another RBI in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single. Grace Spencer, Baylee Blau, Olivia Watts, and Cydney Jarvis each had one hit for the Raiders for a total of six hits.

The Raiders take the field on Wednesday, April 26th at home against Olympic College for their first meeting of the season. Game times are scheduled for 4:00pm and 6:00pm.
