Raiders Dominate Thunderbirds in Home Opener

The Pierce Raiders lit up the Highline Thunderbirds pitching staff on Wednesday afternoon, as the Raiders knocked around 29 hits and scored a total of 30 runs between the two games. The Raiders beat the Thunderbirds in game one with a score of 9-1 and 21-3 in game two. 

In game one, the Raiders were off to the races early on when Elena Castanon blasted a three-run homerun over the left field fence in the bottom of the first inning, bringing in three runs. The Raiders continued with the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when Makayla Stockman drove in Baylee Blau on a groundball to shortstop. Kendall Lawson added two RBIs with a fly ball to center field in the fourth, moving the score to 6-1. Elena Castanon added a double in the bottom of the fifth and scored on a single to right field from Vivian Watts. Jaylen Latchaw drove in the final run of the fifth inning for the Raiders with a pinch hit single, driving in Vivian Watts. Makayla Stockman added another RBI in the bottom of the sixth with another hard hit to the shortstop, scoring Kendall Lawson. Cydney Jarvis earned the win, pitching all six innings for the Raiders. Jarvis gave up one run, three hits, and one walk, while striking out seven.

In game two, the Raiders offense continued to deliver, starting in the bottom of the first inning. Grace Spencer started off the inning with a line drive up-the-middle, followed by a single from Baylee Blau. Makayla Stockman stepped to the plate and hit her first homerun of the day over the centerfield fence, adding three runs for the Raiders. 
In the second inning Grace Spencer tripled on a hard-hit ball to center field, driving in two runs. And later in the inning Makayla Stockman hit her second homerun of the game, adding three more runs for the Raiders and making the score 10-1.
Blau added another homerun in the third inning with a shot to left field, scoring three more runs for the Raiders. After a couple errors from the Thunderbirds and solid hits from the Raiders, Sidnye Burger topped off the inning with a 2-run-homerun, ending the inning with a score of 17-1.
The Raiders ended the fourth inning with four more runs off a single from Blau, and Stockman, and a 2-run-double from Sidnye Burger, ending the game with a score of 21-3.
Makayla Stockman pitched four innings for the Raiders only giving up four hits, three runs, and one walk. Stockman struck out three of the 17 batters she faced. Vivian Watts pitched the final inning for the Raiders striking out one.
