JOB ANNOUNCEMENT - HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH

Pierce College Athletics is actively seeking qualified applicants for the position of Head Women's Basketball Coach, The successful candidate will be responsible the recruitment and training of young women to participate in the highly competitive Northwest Athletic Conference. The position is responsible to the Director of District Athletics for Pierce College. Candidates must have demonstrated successful coaching at the high school and/or college level.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
Pierce College is accepting applications for the position of Head Coach for Women's Basketball. This position reports to the Director of Athletics for the Pierce College District and works with campus departments, athletic commissioners, and athletic department staff to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) in areas including, but not limited to; preparing student-athletes for competition, recruiting, letters of intent, eligibility, scheduling and travel, and preparing student-athletes for competition.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Conduct the Women's Basketball program in accordance with the established rules and regulations of Pierce College, the NWAC, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of all eligibility rules and assist the athletic department staff with assuring that all student-athletes are aware of the rules, and that all appropriate information regarding eligibility is shared with the Director of Athletics.
  • Recruit quality student-athletes in accordance with the rules and regulations of the college and the NWAC.
  • Promote a positive environment for learning and development that supports the goals and objectives of the department's Academic Success Program, with emphasis on student retention and completion, and assist student-athletes with achieving their academic and athletic goals.
  • Make recommendations to the Director of Athletics for the selection of assistant coaches and establish individual responsibilities for members of the coaching staff.
  • Assist with the development of a competitive contest schedule, and a comprehensive practice schedule and conditioning plan.
  • Assist game management personnel with all preparations for event support at all home contests.
  • Assist with the planning for all team travel in conjunction with athletic department staff, to include the safe transport of team members to all away contests.
  • Make recommendations to the Director of Athletics regarding the offering of letters of intent and determining financial awards.
  • Provide comprehensive instruction regarding individual skill development and team strategies specific to the sport of basketball.
  • Make recommendations for the purchase of uniforms and equipment, following the college's purchasing procedures and department apparel guidelines. Maintain inventory control for all team equipment.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of an annual fundraising plan to support women's basketball and the athletic department.
  • Ensure timely submission of all reports, contest results, statistical information, and media sharing.
  • Attend all required department staff and planning meetings, and all associated West Region and NWAC coaches meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education & Experience:
  • Associate of Arts degree required; Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated coaching experience in the sport of basketball at the high school, advanced club, or college level; three (3) or more years of college coaching experience preferred.
  • Ability to attend practices and games on weekday afternoons and evenings, and on weekends.

Knowledge & Skills:
  • Demonstrated understanding of intercollegiate basketball rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of NWAC and NCAA rules and regulations, or willingness to become knowledgeable.
  • Demonstrated competency and experience working in a diverse environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, gender and racial/ethnic backgrounds, and those with physical, emotional and/or learning disabilities.
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification, or ability to obtain within one month of hire.
  • Current unrestricted Washington State driver's license, with proof of insurability, and ability to pass Washington State Van Driving Certification Test.
  • Ability to successfully complete the NWAC Coaches Certification within one month of hire.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

Terms of Employment:
This position is part-time and non-tenured, and is evaluated for renewal annually. The basketball season consists of the main competitive Fall/Winter season which runs from September 15 through mid-March. Team conditioning and training activities continue throughout the rest of the year. Recruitment of student-athletes and other related duties take place throughout the year.

Salary: $9,000 Annual Stipend, eligible for annual incremental increases
