Raiders top Mt. Hood - Advance to NWAC Elite 8

It took beating Mt. Hood a second time at the West Regional qualifier to punch their ticket to this year's NWAC Elite 8. After defeating the Saints in the opening round on Saturday, the Raiders fell in 5 sets to Edmonds Sunday morning, setting up the elimination match with Mt. Hood for the #2 seed to Championship weekend.

Pierce's 4 set win over Mt. Hood - 25-14, 19-25, 25-13, 25-13 - secured the #2 seed fromt he West Regional, and set up an opening round match against the Lane Titans on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Raider offense attack was led by Moeshana Maiava with 20 kills (.250) and Dominique Dizon with 16 kills (.600), with Kaya Anderson dishing out 42 assists to go along with 15 digs. Yasmyne Valladares led the defense with 16 digs, followed by the NWAC's #2 DSAureanaBernaleswith 12 digs, and Saisha Morales with 10. The Raiders, as a team, dominated Mt. Hood statistically, hitting for a .248 percentage to the Saints' .128.

The Raiders opened play on Saturday with a 3 set sweep of the Saints, 25-17, 25-17, 26-24. Dominique Dizon led the offense with 12 kills, Moeshana Maiava had 11 kills, and Addie Downs added 7. Kaya Anderson gave out 36 assists (averaging 12.0 per set). Aureana Bernales led Pierce with 15 digs, followed right behind by Baylee Blau with 14, and Kaya Anderson contributing 11. Addie Downs led the defensive wall at the net with 4 blocks, and Brianna Ingram had 3.

In Sunday morning's winner's bracket match-up for the West Regional #1 seed, the Raiders went the full 5 sets against Edmonds, ultimately falling to the Tritons, 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-11, 6-15). The two teams played straight up through 3 sets. In the 4th set, it appeared the Raiders had finally figured out the Edmonds defense, as they blew the Tritons off the court, 25-11. Unfortunately, the tides turned, as Edmonds opened the 5th and deciding set with a 9-1 run, before closing out the match for the win. Moeshana Maiava once again led the offense with 19 kills, with Dominique Dizon collecting 13 kills. RaedynGoudreau took over quarterbacking the Raider attack with 36 assists. Aureana Bernaleshad a game high 21 digs, with Baylee Blaupitching in with 15. The wall at the net was led by Addie Downs and Makenna Mosher, each with 5 blocks, and Brianna Ingram with 4.

Pierce will host the NWAC Elite 8, November 19-21, at the Health Education Center at the Fort Steilacoom campus. The first day pairings feature Whatcom and Edmonds at 9:00 am, Bellevue vs top-ranked Linn-Benton at 11:30 am, Skagit Valley vs Spokane at 2:00 pm, and the host Raiders taking on Lane at 4:30 pm. The losers from these four matches will meet at 6:30 and 8:30 pm in loser out matches.
